Box Rest

Pre-Quarantine or Travel

Pre-Quarantine or Travel

Horses needing time in the paddock before they move to quarantine or travelling can enjoy the space and grass in one of our luscious paddocks. We work with your vets to ensure any pre-quarantine bloodwork is completed, in addition to any pre-travel expectations are being fulfilled.

What to expect when spelling

Every horse is an individual, which is why spelling at Tilba Farm is never one-size-fits-all. Each horse is managed under a tailored spelling program, developed in consultation with their trainer to ensure expectations and outcomes are clearly aligned.

Whether a horse is spelling for a matter of days or several months, all aspects of their care — including feeding, rugging and farrier routines — are customised to suit their specific needs.

For returning horses, we already understand their preferences and patterns. Some are generous eaters, some are selective, and others enjoy the grass perhaps a little too much — and their management reflects this.

For horses new to Tilba Farm, we take a careful, considered approach. Feed is introduced gradually, settling-in periods are closely monitored, and grass intake is managed conservatively to allow each horse to adjust comfortably.

With imported horses, particularly those from the Northern Hemisphere, we are especially mindful, often implementing grain-free and low-sugar feeding programs to reduce the risk of hoof-related issues.

Every horse is maintained on a balanced diet and at an optimal spelling weight, and we are always happy to liaise closely with trainers and owners to ensure each horse’s spelling program is exactly as intended.
